I don't believe that the women were trafficked or coerced, and I don't believe that the police believe that. They're not trying to help these women at all. As for 'squalid rooms', someone photographed one of the rooms recently, at the request of the people working there, and I wouldn't describe it as squalid. You can see the photos below, they are typical of the bedrooms of Soho walk ups. The flat is 2 Greens Court, upper flat. I don't know if this is one of the ones that has been closed, I'm going to have a look around tomorrow.

I have been looking around Soho today and half of the walk ups are closed. 10 out of 21. I don't know how many of these are permanently closed though. Most have notices on the door but some don't.
How do you know that they are not being forced or trafficked? As there is lot of women from Romania finding this place and the question is, how are they finding it? And who tell the girls about soho in Romania? That why the police are suspicious, as I would be as well.

Word of mouth, Internet, friends who already work in Soho... Back in October I saw a couple of EE girls walking from one walkup to another (they went into all 3 Lisle St walkups)looking for job. Afterwards they walked towards Leicester Sq station. No sign of pimps, traffickers etc
Soho walkups are regularly visited by the police ansd social workers. Dont you think they would easily pick up WGs forced to to work there? I'm pleased to hear that soho walk up is closing down and the government is trying to make the law like the Sweden model. Lol they get pleasure out of it by making money and having affections and they can refuse a customer request. For example a sex worker told me she turn down £500 request for a anal Sex in ten minute, so that said it all really..

The walk ups shown in the photos hardly will qualify as "squalid."
Some of the stairways on the way up aren't nice but once you get into the flats they are usually quite pleasant. The police spin is that they are rescuing vulnerable women from a squalid existence instead of closing their flats and taking away a safe way of making a living. They also want you to believe that the stolen goods that some of the women unwisely bought was stolen from tourists and not shoplifted as I think probably most of it was. I have been going to Soho for years and have never had anything stolen from me.
